Bio & Artist Statement
Cammy Thomas is a North Carolina based artist who works mainly with acrylic drip pours and collages. Cammy holds a Bachelor degree in Visual Arts and Design from North Carolina A&T State University and currently works as an Art Teacher at Statesville Road Elementary School in Charlotte, NC while running her own business in social media Influencing.
A principle theme in Cammy’s work is the beauty or disaster of earth. She leaves it up to the viewer to decide how they view our planet. With global warming, dying wildlife, etc. our world isn’t thriving the way it was intended. She incorporates colors that represent places she visited while abroad in Europe in 2019 such as the beautiful Sea Caves of Ayia Napa in Cyprus embodied by her piece “Ocean Eyes”.
Currently, Cammy is exploring collage techniques with pop art, abstraction, and nature. She holds vision/mood board parties with her coworkers on some weekends to help inspire and bring together the community.
With her recent works, she showcases her travel memories from being abroad and the beauty of earth. It is highly important for women of color to travel and experience other cultures outside of the United States. Her time abroad inspired most of her work and opened her mind to new styles, techniques, and art forms that will bring value to everyone, especially those who haven’t experienced international travel.

In this piece, I showcase my travels & experiences in Europe in a collage through the lens of my sunglasses. Being abroad opened my eyes to various new cultures, food, people, etc. and helped me along my spiritual journey in more ways than one.

These are two separate paintings that when put together create such a magnificent aura of blue and orange. During my study of these complimentary colors, I fell in love with their flow, compatibility, and how it made me reminisce of being at the Sea Caves in Ayia Napa, Cyprus.

I am ME
Inspired by the growing natural hair community, showcasing how beautiful our hair can be in it's natural state is important because sometimes we forget, I know I have. There was a time when I would NEVER wear my natural curls out and was basically ashamed of my hair. Knowing that this was detrimental to my self-confidence, I decided to learn how to take care of my hair & style it. By making this adjustment, I now love my curls and wear them out every chance I get.

During my senior year of college, I created a series of acrylic drip paintings each representing themes of my life and what I noticed around me in the world. "Toxic" is a play on toxic people ruining your life just like toxic waste destroys the earth. Both are avoidable, yet people still fill their lives with it.

Hallows eve
One of my favorite times of year is Halloween because I love all things scary and the concept of becoming a different person for one night only. In the center of the painting, one may see a figure, which I named The Witch. As she comes out of the shadows of night, she creeps on her prey ready for a fright. On Hallows Eve she's stronger than ever, ready to take souls to live with forever.

Halloween Weekend is a big time for music festivals which I am also a big fan of. In tribute to a festival I have yet to experience, I wanted to showcase my skills in pattern design and color theory to create a spooky, yet fun lineup poster to show my support through Covid.
